After months of speculation and countless leaks, LG finally unveiled the G3. And as expected, this beast of a phone is armed to the teeth with the latest and greatest mobile tech. That's nearly a half-inch bigger than the Galaxy S5's 5.1-inch display, but it's not just size that sets these two displays apart. LG made a big deal about the advantages of LCD over AMOLED, Samsung's display tech of choice, but the real headline grabber is the resolution. LG is the first to squeeze a Quad HD, 2,560-by-1,440-pixel display into a smartphone.

SELF DRIVING CARS FROM GOOGLE

Google has reportedly made a driverless car, without steering wheel or brake pedals, which is driven entirely by variety of on-board computers and sensors. Cars can now drive themselves if Google’s project in building their self driving car is a huge success.

Google said that the program is currently in a prototype phase and they will make nearly 100 of these two seat autonomous cars for testing purpose.In 2015, Google hopes that 100 of these two-seaters will be on the roads for extensive testing.

Google's goal with the self-driving car program has been to develop vehicles that are safer than the ones driven by humans. There would be no gas and brake pedals but these cars can only make use of sensors and computing power, with no need for human aid. Nearly 1.2

Kidnapped Girls Located

Nigeria’s military has located nearly 300 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram but fears using force to try to free them could get them killed, the country’s chief of defence said on Monday.

Air Marshal Alex Barde told demonstrators supporting the much criticized military that Nigerian troops can save the girls. But, he added, “we can’t go and kill our girls in the name of trying to get them back.”

He spoke to thousands of demonstrators who marched on the Defence Ministry headquarters in Abuja, the capital. Many were brought in on buses, indicating it was an organized event.

Asked by reporters where they had found the girls, Barde refused to elaborate.

“We want our girls back. I can tell you we can do it. Our military can do it. But where they are held, can we go with force?” he asked the crowd.

WITCHCRAFT: BIRD TURNS TO OLD WOMAN

Policemen were battling yesterday to keep away a crowd that stormed their station at Layeni  in Ajegunle, the popular Lagos suburb, to catch a glimpse of a suspect.   The suspect is an old woman who residents described as a confessed witch.

They said a bird turned into a woman who they claimed, seemed to be in her 80s. Among residents who gathered on Ojo Road, Ajegunle, to see the “shocking” scene was Emeka Christian,who said he was with his girlfriend when they saw three flying black birds in the air.

“I jokingly told my girlfriend – Kemi – that two of the birds could be males fighting over the only female among them. We both laughed it over, but we could not believe our eyes when suddenly one of the birds fell and began to transform into an old woman who appeared in her 80s. The two other birds flew away. While some waited in disbelief, others took to their heels,”   said Emeka.

Poor maintenance leaves Nigeria's Israeli drones grounded

Nigeria bought Israeli surveillance drones years ago that might have been used to hunt for more than 200 girls held by Islamic terrorists, but poor maintenance has left them grounded, two official sources and the aircraft's manufacturer said.

"To the best of our knowledge, these systems aren't operational," Tsur Dvir, marketing officer for Aeronautics Defense Systems, a firm based south of Tel Aviv that supplied Nigeria with Aerostar unmanned aerial vehicles, said on Tuesday.

A Nigerian government source and a former military attache to Nigeria both confirmed the information, although they said details were sketchy owing to the secretive nature of Israeli-Nigerian military cooperation.

Suspected Boko Haram blasts in Jos leave 118 Dead

Car bombs exploded one after the other in a busy market area and adjoining bus terminal in the city of Jos in central Nigeria killing 118 people and wounding 45 on Tuesday afternoon (May 20). Although no group claimed responsibility for the attacks immediately, the Islamic fundamentalist organization Boko Haram is known to have carried out similar attacks in the country since its insurrection five years ago.

23-YEAR-OLD LADY RAPED BY CUSTOMS OFFICERS

It is such a heart breaking news when one hears about dirty crimes committed by the very selected who are in service to the country. Those who are to uphold the statutes of justice and equity are more involved in the very acts of crime. 

Two officers of the Nigerian Customs Service, Seme Border Command have been arrested for allegedly raping a 23-year-old lady.

The suspects identified as Felola Uzezi and Mohammed Sanni, have already been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, for further interrogation.

Five people, including a suspected suicide bomber, were killed in the bomb explosion that rocked Kano on Sunday night, the police have said.
 
The Kano police spokesperson, Magaji Majiya, said 

 “There was a suspected suicide bomb blast at middle road by gold coast road, Sabon Gari Kano. Five persons were killed including the suicide bomber.”

Jonathan’s Plea For Emergency Extension Granted

The House of Representatives has approved the request by President Goodluck Jonathan for an extension of emergency rule in the three north eastern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

The approval was granted after over two-hour closed door briefing by security chiefs and hours of deliberations by lawmakers.

Although some opposition lawmakers argued that the extension of emergency rule is not necessary in those states, others say it is necessary to give a legal backing to domesticate international treaties in the fight against terror in Nigeria with the force of law.

Addressing a news conference after the proceedings, spokesman of the House, Representative Zakari Mohammed, said the constitution is clear on what needs to be done in times such as this.

The lawmakers may have given the extension required by the executive after what they say was useful insight given by the service chiefs on the security situation in the affected areas.

They also realize the need to follow up the efforts put in by the military to see to the end of terrorism in these states.

53 girls have been identified having escaped a mass kidnapping by Islamic militants, potentially subjecting the girls to stigma in this conservative society.

Some 276 girls remain missing, and U.S. officials and agents arrived in Nigeria today to help the Nigerian government, which has been widely criticized for not doing enough to find the girls.

Reuben Abati, a spokesman for Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, said in a statement late Thursday that the President had met with the U.S. ambassador to discuss “the modalities for the actualization” of the U.S. offer of help. Boko Haram, which wants to impose Islamic law on Nigeria, abducted more than 300 girls from a boarding school in the northeast town of Chibok on April 15. From information gathered, Nigeria will receive support from America, UK and France.

However, it has also been gathered that recently Canada has joined in the support. The government of Borno state, where Chibok is located, said in a statement received Friday that the 53 girls it identified by name include those who fled the day they were kidnapped and those who escaped from Boko Haram camps days later.

Chibok residents are staging a street protest today to press Borno’s government to do more to find the missing girls. It's been recorded that Boko Haram has killed more than 1,500 people this year. It is of course no surprise that the Nigerian domestic terrorism has found support from important celebrities from across the globe. The Hollywood icon, Angelina Jolie, has also shared her concern on the matter.

Another Nyanya Bombing: May Day Tragedy

The blast occurred last night Thursday May 1st around 8:20pm at Karshi Taxi Park, very close to the scene of the April 14th bomb blast, exactly 18 days after deadly bomb blasts at Nyanya bus terminal in Abuja which claimed the lives of 75 people and injured 200 others.
