Another Nyanya Bombing: May Day Tragedy

The blast occurred last night Thursday May 1st around 8:20pm at Karshi Taxi Park, very close to the scene of the April 14th bomb blast, exactly 18 days after deadly bomb blasts at Nyanya bus terminal in Abuja which claimed the lives of 75 people and injured 200 others. It is believed that the explosion came from a bomb-laden white Volkswagen parked at the taxi park.

Some security sources said yesterday that they believe the bomb was set to explode early this morning, just like the Nyanya blast that went off as commuters gathered at the park to take transport to their various destinations, but something went wrong and the bomb
accidentally went off, killing the driver and other innocent people who were about to board buses to leave the Abuja City Park. According to eyewitnesses, there are many casualties, about 70 persons were reportedly dead. But NEMA just said 9 people were dead, 11 unconscious. Vanguard made reports of death count to be 17!

However, emergency services and police on ground are currently evacuating survivors who are being rushed to Asokoro hospital, plus burnt victims. There’s been a call for blood donors and some good spirited Nigerians showed up to donate in order to save the lives of those injured.

Meanwhile, all roads are supposed to lead to Abuja for the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Africa come May 7. Delegates expected include the Chinese PM & 12 Heads of States. We hope these incidences will not further dent the country's image to the outside world... God help us!
